Entgegen der verbreiteten Annahme, dass nur Kinder und Jugendliche zu Adressaten von Erziehung werden, wird in dem Buch theoretisch und empirisch gezeigt, wie Erwachsene, besonders als Mitglieder von quasi-totalen Wohnorganisationen, erzogen werden. In einem Kloster, einer Kommune, einem Wohnprojekt und sozialpädagogisch-therapeutischen Wohngruppen wurden Gruppendiskussionen zur Organisationserziehung geführt und mit der Dokumentarischen Methode rekonstruiert. Ein besonderes Augenmerk widmet Martin Hunold dem Zusammenspiel von organisationaler Erziehung und Sozialisations- sowie Sanktionsmacht.
