1985 yilinda, UNESCO Dünya Mirasi Listesi'nde yer alan sehir, bölgenin tahliyesine ve yenilenmesine neden olmustur. Ancak, yönlendirilen kullanimlar, bölge yeniden birlesme sürecinin kalici ve dengesiz oldugu sürecini belirleyen en kisa sürede tamamlanir. Bu çalisma, sitenin rekabet eden yatirimlarini ve metropolün küresel kentlesme sürecine bagli kalan maddi ve sembolik ödenek çatismalarini (tarihi evreleme, ekonomik hayatta kalma, serbest kalma yeri ...) analiz eder. Bu, 2000 ve 2001 yillarinda Istanbul’da yapilan bu alandaki ilk arastirmaya dayanmaktadir. Baslangiçta mekan üzerine sosyolojik ve antropolojik bir sorgulama ile motive olmus, “belirsiz mekân” kavraminin tanimlanmasi önerisiyle sonuçlanir.
