Bai Gao is Professor of Sociology at Duke University. His research areas include economic sociology, comparative-historical sociology, international political economy, and comparative political economy. Gao is the author of Economic Ideology and Japanese Industrial Policy: Developmentalism from 1931 to 1965, Japan’s Economic Dilemma: The Institutional Origins of Prosperity and Stagnation, and Western Social Sciences and Japanese Studies. He is also an editor for High-Speed Rail: An Analysis of the Chinese Innovation System, and China-Europe Freight Trains: State Building and Market Building.
