Elena Fiddian-Qasmiyeh is Reader in Human Geography and Co-Director of the Migration Research Unit at the Department of Geography, University College London. Before joining UCL, Elena held positions as Director of the International Summer School of Forced Migration, Lecturer and Senior Research Officer at the University of Oxford. Her research examines the intersections between gender and religion in experiences and representations of and responses to, forced migration, and she has conducted extensive fieldwork in refugee camps and cities in the Middle East, North Africa, the Caribbean and Europe. Her publications include The Ideal Refugees: Gender, Islam and the Sahrawi Politics of Survival (2014) and South-South Educational Migration, Humanitarianism and Development: Views from the Caribbean, North Africa and the Middle East (2015). She was awarded the Lisa Gilad Prize in Refugee Studies in 2013, and a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2015. Gil Loescher is a long-established expert on international refugee policy. For over 25 years, he was Professor of International Relations at the University of Notre Dame in the United States and was a visiting fellow at Princeton University, LSE, Oxford and the Department of Humanitarian Affairs at the US State Department in Washington, D.C. In recent years he has been Senior Research Fellow, Centre for International Studies, University of Oxford, Senior Fellow for Forced Migration and International Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and a senior researcher at the European Council on Refugees and Exiles. He is Visiting Professor at the Refugee Studies Centre, Queen Elizabeth House, University of Oxford. Gil Loescher is a long-established expert on international refugee policy. He was previously a Senior Research Officer at the Refugee Studies Centre and Senior Researcher at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford. His research interests include statelessness, diasporas and the state; Romani politics and anti-Gypsyism; illegality and the everyday experiences of undocumented migrant children and young people; and crisis, governance and the governmentality of forced migration in the EU.
