About author(s)

Ke Ma has extensive experience in rock engineering monitoring, early warning systems, and stability analysis. In response to the critical national need for disaster early warning and the demands of national rock mass engineering, he proposed the method of “monitoring-based simulation and simulation-based early warning.” He successfully developed an intelligent early warning cloud platform system for disaster prevention and control in large rock mass engineering projects. He has served as the principal investigator for over five National Fund projects, including one national key research and development plan sub-project, and has led more than 20 major engineering projects. Ke Ma’s contributions to scientific research have been widely recognized. He has received four first-class and two second-class provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress. He has published three monographs, over 60 SCI/EI papers, and has been granted 5 Chinese invention patents and 5 software copyrights. In addition to his research achievements, Ke Ma holds influential positions in international academic organizations and journals. He is a Lifetime Member of the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) and the International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR). He also holds key editorial positions in several esteemed journals, serving as a Scientific Editor for the Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, as well as an Editorial Board Member for the International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, Geohazard Mechanics, and the Chinese Journal of Engineering Geophysics. His contributions have significantly advanced academic exchange and technological innovation in rock mechanics and geohazard mitigation.

Chun’an Tang, as a Chair Professor (funded by Cheung Kong Scholar Programme from State Education Ministry), is the Director of the Deep Underground Research Center (DURC) of Dalian University of Technology, and the Chief Professor of Structural Geology (Part-time), University of Geosciences (Wuhan), China. He was also the Vice President of the Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), and was the China National Group Chairman of International Society of Rock Mechanics. He leads several major research projects in rock mechanics, especially on rock failure process analysis and monitoring in civil engineering, and is the chief scientist for a National 973 program for fundamental research. His work is funded by the “Trans-Century Training Programme Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars in China” from the State Education Ministry and by the "Special Natural Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars in China" from National Nature Science Foundation. So far, he has published more than 300 technical papers on rock failure mechanisms and civil engineering, and is the author of five Chinese books of rock mechanics and the principle author of “Rock Failure Mechanism” published by CRC (Taylor & Francis Group, 2010, UK). In recent years, he is keen on Earth science research and, based on mechanics thinking, he puts forward a new theory of Earth Evolution.
