Michele Santangelo is Full Professor of General Surgery at the University Federico II of Naples and teaches in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses (specialisation courses, masters, doctorate). His academic and research activities have mainly focused on kidney transplantation surgery and uremic patients, abdominal and retroperitoneal surgery, breast surgery and emergency surgery; all fields in which he is also an expert in his clinical-surgical activities. He is currently Director of the Division of General and Emergency Surgery at the Policlinico Federico II, where he also directed the activities of kidney transplantation from deceased/living donors and all related surgical activities. Thanks to his qualified clinical and surgical experience, the availability of dedicated wards/operating theatres, and the collaboration of highly qualified specialists, Prof. Santangelo is a regional and national point of reference for renal failure patients. A member of prestigious national and international Scientific Societies and Academies (in some of which he has also held apex social roles), he is the author of over 120 papers in indexed journals, 32 book chapters, and the editor of 6 single-topic volumes all concerning his fields of surgical/research interest.Prof. Santangelo has participated as chairman, moderator and speaker in numerous national and international congresses, also organising and coordinating the scientific activities of some of them.
Fabio Vistoli, MD, is an experienced digestive surgeon with a PhD in surgery, immunology and transplant biotechnology. He has significantly advanced pancreas and kidney transplantation programmes at the University of Pisa and is now Professor of Surgery at the University of L'Aquila. At the head of the Division of General Surgery and Transplantation, he continues to promote innovation in surgical techniques for the transplantation and treatment of pancreatic cancer. Dr Vistoli's contributions include pioneering procedures, conducting numerous clinical trials, and exploring innovative strategies to overcome immunological challenges in pancreas and kidney transplantation. He has been a pioneer in surgical innovation, in particular by participating in innovative robot-assisted kidney and pancreas transplants. His extensive research output includes more than 150 publications in prestigious peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, Dr Vistoli has received numerous national and international research grants and awards in recognition of his significant impact on the field of surgery and transplantation.
