Fred McKinney is the cofounder of BJM Solutions, LLC, an economic consulting firm specializing in supplier diversity and minority business development. Before earning his PhD in economics from Yale University, he was a junior economist for Carter's White House Council of Economic Advisers. McKinney served as an assistant professor at Brandeis University’s Heller School, later joining the University of Connecticut as a full-time assistant professor. Between 2001 and 2015, McKinney served as CEO of the New England Minority Supplier Development Council. He subsequently became Managing Director of MBE Executive Education at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business. Between 2018 and 2021, he was Carlton Highsmith Chair in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Quinnipiac University. McKinney is a columnist for Hearst Newspapers.
