Der Sammelband „Zwischen Nostalgie und Innovation“ beleuchtet Otfried Preußlers Werk zwischen traditionellen, aus Märchen, Sagen, Legenden bekannten Motiven und zeitgeschichtlich innovativen Facetten. In den Blick genommen werden die literarischen Anfänge in den 1940er-Jahren und Preußlers literarische Imagination von Heimat. Thema sind des Weiteren seine bekannten Klassiker aus den 1950- bis 1970er-Jahren, aber auch weniger populäre Texte wie „Thomas Vogelschreck“ (1958). Von besonderer Bedeutung ist die Frage, wie der Autor Elemente der Volksliteratur kunstvoll transformiert und überzeitliche Geschichten schafft, die über Generationen und Kulturen hinweg bis heute Resonanz finden.
