Die Studie untersucht, wie Ärzt:innen im Praxisfeld der Pränataldiagnostik Verantwortung unter Bedingungen hoher Unsicherheit übernehmen. Sie zeigt auf der Grundlage eines empirischen Ansatzes, der problemzentrierte Interviews, theoretisches Sampling und Fall-Struktur-Analyse kombiniert, dass Beratung weniger auf „richtige“ Entscheidungen zielt als auf die Begleitung komplexer Reflexionsprozesse. Dabei oszillieren professionelle Haltungen zwischen Neutralität und empathischem Einlassen und lassen sich als Form eines „sorgenden Professionalismus“ beschreiben, der für professionelles Handeln unverzichtbar ist und auch die Beratenden in ihrer Selbstkonstitution berührt. Die Ergebnisse bieten Impulse für Ausbildung, Beratungspraxis und ärztliche Selbstreflexion und machen sichtbar, wie pränatale Diagnostik grundlegende Fragen nach Autonomie, Recht und Solidarität aufwirft.
