Gegenstand der Arbeit ist ein hochaktuelles Thema an der Schnittstelle von IT-Sicherheit und Datenschutzrecht: Wie lässt sich Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung im E-Mail-Verkehr so gestalten, dass sie rechtlich tragfähig, nutzerfreundlich und breit akzeptiert ist – insbesondere im Hinblick auf das zentrale, bislang unzureichend gelöste Problem der Verteilung und des Auffindens öffentlicher Schlüssel. Ziel ist es, aus rechtlichen Vorgaben ein Anforderungsprofil und daraus Gestaltungskriterien, -ziele und -vorschläge für ein schlüsselverteilendes System abzuleiten.
