Europa und die Europäische Union bilden für junge politisch aktive Menschen keinen einheitlichen Bezugsraum, sondern ein komplexes Gefüge aus Möglichkeiten, Widersprüchen und Erwartungen. Das Buch untersucht, wie junge Politiker*innen aus Deutschland und Polen Europa deuten, welche Erfahrungen ihre politischen Einstellungen prägen und wie sie sich zwischen nationalen, kollektiven und supranationalen Bezugspunkten verorten.
Auf Grundlage qualitativer Interviews, ethnografischer Beobachtungen und der Grounded Theory Methodology in Verbindung mit der Situational Analysis entwickelt die Arbeit das Konzept der EUropäischen Positionalität. Es zeigt, wie politische Selbstverortungen durch Ambivalenzen, Fragmentierungen, biografische Prägungen und diskursive Rahmungen strukturiert werden.
Die Studie leistet einen Beitrag zur Politikwissenschaft, Europasoziologie und politischen Bildungsforschung, indem sie zentrale Spannungsfelder europäischer Zugehörigkeit sichtbar macht und aufzeigt, wie junge Akteur*innen Europa als offenes und zugleich herausforderndes Projekt erschließen.
