Die Erfahrung struktureller Unterdrückung umfasst sowohl fortlaufende Verletzungserfahrungen als auch fortlaufende Heilungsprozesse, die mit Aktivismus und dem Kampf gegen Unterdrückung eng verwoben sind. „Healing als politische Praxis“ steht für ein politisiertes Verständnis von Heilung, welches Strukturen von Macht und Unterdrückung als integralen Einflussfaktor auf die biopsychosoziale Gesundheit anerkennt. Eine machtkritische Problematisierung herkömmlicher eurozentrischer Systeme der psychosozialen Gesundheitsversorgung, vor allem Sozialer Arbeit und (Psycho-)Therapie, zeigt zunächst Veränderungsbedarf und Leerstellen auf. Zugänge zu Heilungs- und Unterstützungsverständnissen und Praxen aus marginalisierten Communities stehen schließlich im Zentrum des Buches. Die communitybasierten, von Betroffenen entwickelten Antworten wirken Isolation und Individualisierung entgegen und ermöglichen EmPOWERment, kollektive Emanzipation und gesellschaftliche Transformation.
