Im Zuge der Landtagswahlen 2024 in Ostdeutschland gewann die Debatte über ostdeutsche Identität sowie Differenzen zwischen Ost- und Westdeutschland erneut an Bedeutung, insbesondere angesichts der hohen Zustimmungswerte für die AfD in Sachsen, Thüringen und Brandenburg. In Thüringen erzielte die Partei die meisten Zweitstimmen und warb im Wahlkampf mit dem Slogan „Der Osten macht’s“. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht dieses Buch die Diskursfunktion der Kategorie ostdeutsch in der Wahlkampfrhetorik der AfD im Kontext der Landtagswahl 2024 in Thüringen. Es zeigt, inwiefern die diskursive Konstruktion der Ostdeutschen als Legitimationsressource politischen Handelns innerhalb der AfD-Diskurse fungiert. Darüber hinaus entwickelt die Arbeit einen theoretisch-konzeptionellen Ansatz zur Analyse von Identitätskonstruktionen und ihrer Funktionalisierung in Diskursen.
