When effectively managed, South–South cooperation serves as a crucial driver for the development of Africa and other regions. This form of collaboration takes on particular significance in the context of Africa’s evolving landscape and development aspirations, paving the way for “win-win” partnerships that benefit a rapidly growing continent.

The relationship between Morocco and South Korea has evolved significantly since the establishment of diplomatic ties in July 1962. Morocco was the first African nation to establish diplomatic and economic relations with South Korea, setting an exemplary model for cooperation.

Both countries share strong political and diplomatic ties, with an increasing focus on strengthening economic relations and partnerships in various sectors, considering their substantial potential. South Korea, a leading industrial and technological power in Asia, and Morocco, a strategic leader in Africa, can learn from each other’s successes and historical experiences.

Over the past fifty years, South Korea has undergone remarkable progress, transforming from poverty to an economic and industrial leader. This success is largely attributed to the country’s massive investments in human capital and education, considered essential for social progress in a society influenced by Confucian traditions.

On the other hand, Morocco’s strategic geographic location and extensive network of free-trade agreements present considerable growth potential. It could serve as an investment platform for South Korea, offering a range of economic opportunities. Morocco can adopt lessons from Korea’s achievements, particularly in areas such as education, training, and structuring economic development.

Priority areas for cooperation include the digital economy, industry, renewable energy, innovation, and education. Additionally, the two countries are exploring partnerships in distance learning, e-learning, scientific research, and technology transfer. This strengthened partnership could help Moroccan universities expand their missions in innovation and entrepreneurship.
