Effectuation bezeichnet eine relativ junge Theorie, die Einblicke in Heuristiken von Entrepreneuren erlaubt. Sebastian Reh zeigt im Rahmen einer empirischen Untersuchung, bestehend aus einer qualitativen und einer quantitativen Studie mit Startups, dass sich Effectuation als Entscheidungslogik unter wahrgenommener Unsicherheit bewährt. Des Weiteren lässt sich ein Zusammenhang zwischen den Gründungsmotiven und der Anwendung der von Effectuation beschriebenen Prinzipien feststellen. Insbesondere soziale Motive sind demzufolge ausschlaggebend für die Art der Entscheidungsfindung in jungen Unternehmen.
