Valentin Schmidt präsentiert differenzierte Ergebnisse über die Auswirkungen des Konzepts der Lean Production auf die Performance eines Produktionssystems. Mit der vorgestellten Methodik zur Messung der Performance werden sowohl Aussagen über die Effizienz als auch Effektivität einer Produktion ermöglicht. Zudem kann die Frage beantwortet werden, ob sich ein Produktionssystem in einem (optimal) schlanken Zustand befindet. Die modelltheoretische Untersuchung umfasst mehrere Szenarien und legt offen, unter welchen Bedingungen der Einsatz dieses Konzepts sinnvoll ist, welcher Nutzen damit erzielt werden kann und welche Risiken bestehen.
